Tranzschelia discolor (Fuckel) Tranzschel & M.A. Litv. 1939 - (peach rust)

This rust fungus infects peach and some other Prunus species like nectarine or plum in subtropical regions. Infected trees develop shoot cankers and lesions on leaves and fruits, resulting in early flowering and reduced yields. The fungus can be dormant during unfavorable conditions and is re-activated in humid and warm environments. Fungicides are mainly used for control. Aeciospores are produced on Anemone.

The teliospores have a size of around 30x20 µm and are two-celled, with a 2-2½ µm thick wall which is thicker at the apex and around the equator of the basal cell. In contrast to the closely related Tranzschelia pruni-spinosa, the lower cell of the teliospore has a smoother surface and is paler.
