Tenebrionidae (nuisance pests)
The Tenebrionidae are a large family called darkling beetles, due to their typical dark colour. Various species are important as storage pests or less often plant pests, see the Tenebrionidae (plant/storage pests) for that group. This page covers a few species that are regarded as nuisance and medical pests like the rubber litter beetle, Luprops tristis, which breeds in the rubber plantations of India and can form large seasonal aggregations which invade homes. When irritated, they secrete a substance which can cause skin burns.
