Strawberry mild yellow edge virus (SMYEV)

This virus is widely distributed and infects strawberry plants. The plants often remain symptomless if they are only infected by SMYEV. However, such infections can still translate into substantial yield losses (Torrico et al., 2018).

Mixed infections with other strawberry viruses like the Strawberry mottle virus can result in a serious disease (strawberry decline disease) with yield losses exceeding 50%. SMYEV is transmitted by the strawberry aphid Chaetosiphon fragaefolii.
