Chaetosiphon fragaefolii (Cockerell, 1901) - (strawberry aphid)
This aphid is widely distributed and a pest of strawberries. It also transmits various virus diseases like the Strawberry mild yellow edge virus (SMYEV) and the Strawberry mottle virus (SMV). The aphid prefers the new shoots and can be found on the lower side of the leaves.
Wingless forms are pale green, between 1 and 2 mm long, with long siphunculi, and covered with capitate hairs (bearing small knobs at the end, see 3rd image below). The winged adults are brownish black with parts of the abdomen having a greenish colouration.
