Sadwavirus fragariae

Assigned virus:
strawberry mottle virus (SMoV)

The strawberry mottle virus is widespread and infects strawberry plants, causing an economically important disease with yield losses of up to 30%. In mixed infections with other strawberry viruses like the strawberry mild yellow edge virus, the losses can reach 80% (Thompson & Jelkmann, 2003). Such serious strawberry diseases caused by mixed virus infections are often referred to as strawberry decline disease. SMoV is transmitted by aphids in a semi-persistent manner.
