Sadwavirus (genus)
This genus of plant viruses contains viruses similar to the 'satsuma dwarf virus', assigned to Sadwavirus citri. They cause diseases on a variety of plants with stunting, mottling, mosaic and ringspot symptoms. The viruses can be transmitted by grafting. The natural spread apparently involves nematode vectors.
The particles are isometric and non-enveloped, about 25-30 nm in diameter. The genome consists of 2 linear, single-stranded and positive-sensed RNA molecules with lengths of 4.6 to 5.4 kb, each encoding a polyprotein. The genus is related to the Nepoviruses, but the members have 2 CP subunits (see illustration on right).
