Sporobolus alterniflorus (weed) (Loisel.) P.M.Peterson & Saarela - (smooth cordgrass)

Smooth cordgrass is found in salt marshes and intertidal zones, usually as dense stands. It is native to coastal areas of western and southern North America but has been introduced into various regions and countries. The introductions were either accidental or deliberate for restoration and stabilization projects, e.g. to prevent coastal erosion. It is often considered weedy in the invaded regions because it replaces native species. Many of the invasive forms have been the results of hybridization with native species.
