Sorghum bicolor drummondii (weed) (Nees ex Steud.) de Wet & Harlan - (Sudangrass, shattercane)
This form of sorghum is grown as a forage crop in some regions. It can be distinguished from grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor bicolor) by the seed cover. Hybrids of both forms are also cultivated. Sudangrass and shattercane are common names for this form, but other forms of sorghum are also sometimes called "shattercane". Further, there are different opinions about the taxonomy and correct scientific name for this form. It can be regarded as a subspecies of Sorghum bicolor or as a separate species (Sorghum sudanense). In any case, the genetic difference to grain sorghum is small (Li et al., 2016).
