Sordariales (antagonists)
This order of ascomycete fungi contains more than 100 genera with a wide range of life forms. These include saprobic, plant pathogenic (see the plant pathogenic Sordariales) and wood inhabiting species. Some species are also antagonistic to plant diseases. This page deals with the latter group. An example of an antagonistic species is Chaetomium globosum which is considered to be a biological control agent for several species of plant pathogenic fungi. The members of the Sordariales have membranous or leather-like ascomata. The ascospores are hyaline or brown and often have appendages or sheaths.
