Schinus L. - (pepper trees)
This genus contains around 30 species of trees and shrubs which are native to South and Central America. Schinus terebinthifolius and S. molle have been introduced into other regions as ornamentals or sources of wood and have become invasive in some areas like Florida and southern Africa.
The trees have alternate and evergreen leaves. The fruits grow in drupes and those of some species can be used as spice (pink peppercorns).
