Rhyzobius lophanthae (predator) (Blaisdell, 1892) - (purple scale predator)

This small ladybird beetle is widely distributed and an efficient predator of armoured scale insects. It has been often introduced as part of a classical biological control program. In some countries it is commercially produced. The adults are around 2-2½ mm long.
