This genus is widely distributed and contains around 100 species of small ladybird beetles. They prey on scale insects and several species are recognised as important biological control agents of pest scales. For example, Rhyzobius lophanthae is commercially produced and used against scale insects like Aspidiotus nerii or Aulacaspis yasumatsui. The adults of Rhyzobius species are 1-5 mm long and have relatively long antennae and large eyes.
