Rhopalicus tutela (parasitoid) (Walker, 1836)

This wasp is a polyphagous ectoparasitoid of bark beetle larvae. It is native to Europe and temperate parts of Asia and has been introduced into other regions like New Zealand and North America (Bartlett et al., 1978).

Common hosts are Ips species, but various other hosts have been recorded like larvae of Dendroctonus and Hylastes species, or Tomicus piniperda. The adult wasp is around 2-3 mm long with a dark bluish or greenish metallic colouration.
