Reduviidae - (assassin bugs, predators)
Most species of Reduviidae prey on insects, less commonly on higher animals or humans. For the latter group see the page on Reduviidae (medical pests). Most insect predators are not specialized and are recognized as beneficial for a variety of insect pests in agricultural environments. An example is Zelus renardii which is found in North and Central America and preys on pests like whiteflies, aphids or lepidopterous pests.
The family includes around 7,000 species with a large variety of forms. The rostrum is relatively short, curved and 3-segmented. The head is movable and has large compound eyes.
