Puccinia novopanici Demers, Miao Liu & Hambl. 2017 - (switchgrass rust)
This fungus is found in North America. It causes an important rust disease on switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) and has been often misidentified as Puccinia emaculata, a species restricted to Panicum capillare. Several other Puccinia species can also infect Panicum virgatum in North America, but are less common.
P. novopanici has been also reported from Panicum amarum and P. altum. It can be distinguished from other Panicum rusts by it's spore morphology and DNA structure (Demers et al., 2017).
