Pseudocercospora eumusae Crous & Mour. 2002 - (Septoria leaf spot of banana, eumusae leaf spot of banana)
The fungus causes "eumusae leaf spot of banana", a disease which is part of the Sigatoka disease complex, together with Pseudocercospora musae (yellow Sigatoka) and P. fijiensis (black Sigatoka). All three fungi are very similar morphologically, cause similar symptoms, have Musa (bananas and plantains) as hosts, and are closely related genetically (Chang et al., 2016).
P. eumusae was first recorded in the mid 1990s from southern Asia and has subsequently been also found in some parts of Africa. Yield losses of infected banana plants can reach 40%.
Synonyms:
Mycosphaerella eumusae
