Candidatus Phytoplasma rubi Malembic-Maher et al., 2011 - (rubus stunt phytoplasma)

This phytoplasma is widely distributed and is found in parts of North America, Europe and Asia. It belongs to the 16SrV-D subgroup, infecting Rubus species like raspberries or blackberries. The symptoms include stunting, witches’ broom, small leaves, short internodes, enlarged sepals, phyllody, flower proliferation, and fruit malformations. It spreads mainly through infected planting material (cuttings), aided by a long incubation period of up to 1 year, and sometimes inconspicuous symptoms.
