Phyla canescens (weed) (Kunth) Greene - (lippia, hairy fogfruit)

This mat-forming herb is native to parts of South America and has been introduced as an ornamental into other regions. It has become invasive in several regions, in particular parts of Australia. It grows near rivers and in pastures, forming dense mats which prevent the growth of other plants.

This species has a similar appearance compared to Phyla nodiflora and the distribution of both species overlap in some areas. However, P. canescens is adapted to a more temperate environment, is usually slightly smaller and can be distinguished by the morphology of the flower head.
