Panonychus citri (McGregor, 1916) - (citrus red mite)

The spider mite is a serious pest of citrus and other fruit trees with a worldwide distribution. It attacks the foliage, fruits and young shoots by puncturing the surface cells. In contrast to many other spider mites, it feeds on the upper side of the leaves. The leaves turn yellow, white, or take on a bronze appearance and the mite can cause partial defoliation of the trees.

Vernacular names
• Deutsch: Zitrusspinnmilbe
• English: citrus red mite
• Español: acaro rojo de los cítricos
• Français: acarien des agrumes
• Português: ácaro-purpúreo

For control acaricides are used but resistance to these pesticides has become a major problem.
