Ootheca Chevrolat, 1837

This genus of leaf beetles contains around 10 species that are found in Africa, mainly in tropical regions. Several species are pests of legume crops like beans or cowpeas. The larvae feed on the roots and the adult beetles on the leaves. Mainly young leaves and seedlings are attacked.

The adult beetles are typically 4-6 mm long. The colouration can be variable, even within one species, usually ranging from a uniform brown colour to forms with a brown pronotum and dark elytra.
