Ootheca mutabilis (Sahlberg, 1829) - (cowpea leaf beetle)
This leaf beetle is found in central and southern parts of Africa. It infests leguminous crops like beans and cowpeas. Young leaves and seedlings like pre-flowering cowpeas are preferred. Yield losses ranged from 20-60% in susceptible cowpea cultivars, when these were infested at the seedling stage (Ashamo, 1998).
