Oligonychus pratensis (Banks) - (Banks grass mite)

This mite is a serious pest of maize and other cereals in North America. It has been also reported from various other regions. Feeding activities of the mites on the lower leaf surfaces can result in yellowing of the leaves up to significant yield losses. Apart from cereals, grasses and other crops can be affected, like date palms in California, where high populations result in scarring of the dates (e.g. Ganjisaffar & Perring, 2017).
