Oligonychus mangiferus (Rahman & Sapra, 1940) - (mango red mite)
This mite is found in various tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa and South America. It infests a variety of fruit trees like mango, as well as ornamentals, feeding on the upper leaf surface. Heavy infestations result in leaf scarring, chlorosis and premature leaf drop. Populations on mango might increase in the dry season and damage can then be substantial. The life-cycle of this species lasts for about 2-4 weeks and the mite could complete more than 10 generations per year under suitable condition. The pest is controlled by pesticides in some countries.
