Microtus Schrank, 1798

The genus contains more than 50 species of voles. Some are considered to be pests and are actively controlled with rodenticides. The species are characterized by their compact body, small ears as well as short legs and tails. Crops attacked include field crops like lucerne, grasses and forest trees.
