Microbotryum violaceum (Pers.) G. Deml & Oberw. 1982
The fungus causes anther smut on plants of the genus Silene. It can be considered as a disease of ornamental Silene cultivars (these aspects are covered on this page) or as a beneficial pathogen for weedy Silene species. See Microbotryum violaceum (as a weed pathogen) for the latter aspects.
