Microbotryomycetes

The Microbotryomycetes are a class of basidiomycetous fungi related to the Pucciniomycetes. Most species are either mycoparasites, see Microbotryomycetes (antagonists), or are plant pathogens, causing mainly smut diseases.

Most species have 2 stages, a haploid yeast-like form and a diploid form, producing teliospores and basidia. The class has been described as simple-septate basidiomycetes "having colacosomes and septal pores without microbodies, and related taxa" (see Bauer et al., 2006).
