Melampsora epitea Thüm. 1879

This fungus is widely distributed in temperate regions and causes leaf rust on willows. It is the most common Melampsora species on willows. Infections result in premature defoliation and significant yield losses in commercially grown willows (short rotation coppice). Aecia develop on Larix species and other conifers. Taxonomically, M. epitea is regarded as a complex of more than 10 closely related species.
