Lythraceae (weeds) - (loosestrife family)

This family contains more than 500 species of herbs, shrubs and trees. These include ornamentals as well as fruit and forest trees. The family also contains some important weeds like purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria). The members have petals which are crumpled in the bud and seeds with a many-layered cover.
