Lotmaria passim Evans and Schwarz, 2015

This species of flagellate "protozoa" belongs to the family Trypanosomatidae, phylum Euglenozoa. It is a common intestine parasite of honey bees. In laboratory trials, L. passim has a synergic effect when it occurs in mixed infections with Nosema ceranae, reducing the survival of the bees more than infections by N. ceranae alone (Arismendi et al., 2020). On the other hand, survival is not significantly affected if honey bees are only infected by Lotmaria passim.
