Idaeovirus rubi
Assigned virus:
• raspberry bushy dwarf virus (RBDV)
RBDV is wide-spread (e.g. Europe, Americas, Australia) and infects Rubus species and grapevine. Depending on the Rubus cultivar, infections may be symptomless or involve yellowing, stunting and the production of small, deformed ("crumbly") fruits. The "raspberry bushy dwarf disease" develops when plants are co-infected with a second virus, like black raspberry necrosis virus, resulting in severe stunting and yellowing.
RBDV is transmitted through pollen and seeds, but can be also transmitted mechanically and by cuttings. The genome consists of 2 positive-sense and single-stranded RNAs, 5.5 kb and 2.2 kb large. A third subgenomic RNA (sgRNA3) is expressed by RNA2.
