Idaeovirus (genus)
This genus currently contains the 'raspberry bushy dwarf virus' (RBDV) which has been assigned to the species Idaeovirus rubi. RBDV is transmitted through pollen and seeds, but can be also transmitted mechanically. The genus is named after the originally described host plant of RBDV, the red raspberry, Rubus idaeus.
The viruses included/proposed in this genus have small, isometric particles around 30-35 nm in diameter and a positive sensed ssRNA genome. The genome consists of 3 RNA components, RNA1, RNA2 and the subgenomic sgRNA. Similarities to genera of the family Bromoviridae like the genus Ilarvirus have been pointed out.
