Heracleum sosnowskyi (weed) Manden - (Sosnowski's hogweed)
This plant is native to parts of western Asia like the Caucasus, Transcaucasia and Turkey, where it is found in meadows and clearings of southern slopes. It was initially used as fodder and silage crop, but was found to pose health risks to humans and livestock and effects the flavour of meat and milk. It is poisonous like some other hogweed species and skin contact can cause severe burns.
H. sosnowskyi has become an aggressive weed in many parts of Europe and suppresses native species. The plant is similar in appearance and biology to Heracleum mantegazzianum, but is smaller and grows to a height of only 1-3 m. It propagates through seeds only.
