Grosmannia clavigera (Rob.-Jeffr. & R.W. Davidson) Zipfel, Z.W. de Beer & M.J. Wingf. 2006

The fungus causes blue-stain of pine tree wood and is associated with certain species of bark beetles like the mountain pine beetle Dendroctonus ponderosae. It helps the bark beetles to overcome the tree defences and even detoxifies some of the defensive compounds produced by the tree. It also blocks transport of water and nutrients in the tree and provides nutrition to the developing beetle larvae.
