Golovinomyces orontii (Castagne) V.P. Heluta 1988
The fungus is common and widely distributed and causes important diseases on crops. It is a major cause of cucurbit powdery mildew, especially in temperate regions. It also infects various other crops like linseed (linseed/flax powdery mildew). Symptoms start with the appearance of small white spots that eventually spread to cover the entire leaf surface, often leading to defoliation.
The conidiophores arise laterally from basal cells and produce 2 to 6 conidia in chains. These are hyaline, ellipsoid to ovate and have a size of around 30-40 x 15 µm.
Synonyms:
Erysiphe orontii
Oidium lini
