Glischrochilus sanguinolentus (Olivier, 1790)

This sap beetle is found in North America. It feeds on sap flowing from trees as well as on fermenting plant products. Together with other sap beetles, it is often associated with oak wilt fungus mats (Bretziella fagacearum) and is suspected to transmit the oak wilt disease (Cease & Juzwik, 2001).

The adult beetle is 5-6 mm long. The pattern on the elytra is variable, ranging from mostly orange-red to mostly black. A common pattern is orange-red in the basal two-thirds of the elytra with central black marks and black in the apical third.
