Glischrochilus quadrisignatus (Say, 1835) - (fourspotted sap beetle)
This sap beetle is native to North America and is widely distributed there. It has been introduced into Europe, probably with fruits or vegetables during World War II, and is now also common in several European countries (Keszthelyi, 2012). It mainly feeds on sap flowing from trees and is also attracted to and feeds on ripe fruits. Together with other sap beetles, it is often associated with oak wilt fungus mats (Bretziella fagacearum) and is suspected to transmit the oak wilt disease (Cease & Juzwik, 2001).
G. quadrisignatus has a similar morphology and biology compared to other species of Glischrochilus. The adults are black, 4-5 mm long, with four yellowish or orange marks on the elytra.
