Gammanucleorhabdovirus maydis

Assigned virus:
maize fine streak virus (MFSV)

The maize fine streak virus has been described from south-eastern North America (Redinbaugh et al., 2002). It causes dwarfing and fine chlorotic streaks along the veins in maize. It has bacilliform particles (approx. 230 x 70 nm) and is transmitted by Graminella nigrifrons in a persistent manner. However, not all individuals of G. nigrifrons are able to transmit the virus and some may not even acquire it.
