Digitaria Haller - (crabgrasses)
The genus contains around 300 species of grasses, found in many countries but especially in warmer regions. Several are important weeds in crops like cereals (e.g. maize or rice), soybean, ground nuts or lawns.
Crabgrasses grow as patches and have wide flat leaf blades, long stems and long, open seedheads which produce many tiny seeds. The number of seeds produced may exceed 100,000 seeds per plant per season. The name refers to the finger-like inflorescences.
