Cowpea mild mottle virus (CPMMV)
The virus has been first reported from Ghana, but has been subsequently also found in other tropical and subtropical countries. On cowpea it causes mottling, chlorotic blotches and leaf malformations. It can reduce yields by 10-15% and mixed infections with other plant viruses can cause more severe losses.
Several other legumes and some other crops can also become infected. It is transmitted by whiteflies (Bemisia tabaci) in a non-persistent manner. The particles are similar to those of other Carlaviruses, filamentous, flexuous and around 650 nm long.
