Citrus dwarfing viroid (CDVd)

The viroid does not induce pronounced disease symptoms in some citrus hosts, and can be used on such hosts as a regulatory genetic element, modifying tree performance for agricultural benefits. For example, it is being studied as a growth regulator in high-density orchards. In citrus varieties grafted onto Poncirus trifoliata it causes dwarfing without reducing production.
