Chrysomya putoria (Wiedemann, 1830) - (tropical African latrine blowfly)

This blowfly is native to Africa and was introduced into South America in the 1970's. It breeds in latrines, manure and dead animals. It is suspected of transmitting human diseases and can also cause secondary myiasis. On the other hand, it is also explored for use in maggot therapy, to clean infected wounds after sterilization.
