Chrysomya Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830

This genus of blowflies is mainly found in the old world and contains around 40 species. Some of them have spread to the Americas. Some species are nuisance pests and several can invade wounds in animals (and also humans) and cause secondary myiasis, e.g. the old world screw-worm (Chrysomya bezziana) and Chrysomya megacephala.

The adults are 10-15 mm long. The arista portion of the antennae is feather-like and they have a row of thick meral bristles (the meron is a part of the thorax above and between the middle and hind coxae).

For details see the respective page in Wikipedia.
