Cecidophyopsis grossulariae (Collinge, 1907) - (gooseberry mite)
This gall mite is found in North America and New Zealand. It is similar to the blackcurrant gall mite (Cecidophyopsis ribis), but has a broader host range among Ribes species, as well as a different biology. During the summer, it lives on the leaves, causing distorted and discoloured leaves. In autumn it migrates to the buds and overwinters there. During heavy infestations, a bud can contain more than 100 mites (Hummer et al., 1999).
