Carpophilus Stephens, 1830
The genus Carpophilus contains around 200 species of small beetles which feed and breed mainly on decaying fruits and vegetation. They are widely distributed, especially in the tropics. Several species are regarded as pests and infest dried or ripe fruits and other stored products. Examples of pest species are the driedfruit beetle (Carpophilus hemipterus) and the confused sap beetle (Carpophilus mutilatus).
The adults are around 3 mm large with truncated elytra. In dorsal view, 2 abdominal tergites are usually exposed. The antennae have a distinct club and the pronotum has a rectangular shape.
