Calliphora Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830

This genus of blowflies is widely distributed and includes more than 100 species. Several species are regarded as pests, infesting slaughter‐houses and dried fish (e.g. Calliphora vicina), or causing flystrike in sheep (Calliphora stygia). The adult flies are characterised, among others by their large size, wing morphology and metallic blue abdomen.
