Bryobia rubrioculus (Scheuten, 1857) - (brown mite)

This spider mite is widely distributed and infests mainly fruit trees, like apple, cherry and plum. The damage to the young leaves can be serious, which develop whitish spots and may drop prematurely. Reproduction is by parthenogenesis and eggs are laid on the leaves during the summer, but on the bark in autumn, where they overwinter.

The body of the adults is about 0.8 mm long and reddish-brown. The eggs and nymphs are bright red. The forelegs are very long, like in other species of Bryobia.
