This spider mite is widely distributed and a polyphagous pest, infesting crops like alfalfa, peas, clover, grasses, ornamentals and trees. It has been also reported to invade houses in large numbers. Reproduction is through parthenogenesis and a generation lasts around 1 month.

The mite is about 0.75-0.85 mm long, with front legs that are longer than the body (twice as long as the other legs) and an olive green to reddish-brown colour. The eggs and nymphs are bright red.
