[Spatial distribution and sampling of Agriotes ustulatus Schäller, A. brevis Cd., A. sordidus Illiger (Coleoptera Elateridae) in northern Italy]
Bollettino dell Istituto di Entomologia (Guido Grandi) 53, 29-38
Abstract: Spatial distribution of Agriotes ustulatus, Agriotes brevis, Agriotes sordidus (Coleoptera Elateridae), was studied in order to optimize the sampling by using a soil sampler. The species showed a general random distribution of larvae. No significant differences were recorded between the aggregation of the three species (b=1,17 for A. ustulatus, b=1,10 for A. sordidus, b=1,07 for A. brevis). Young larvae of A. ustulatus showed a higher spatial aggregation in comparison than old larvae (b=1,20 vs. b=0,99). Optimum sample sizes were calculated in order to compare different sampling methods. Green sequential method (stop lines) showed to be the most practical method to monitoring larvae of Elateridae.
