Agriotes ustulatus (Schäller, 1783)
This click beetle is widely distributed in Europe and neighbbouring regions. The larvae (wireworms) feed on the roots of various crops like sunflower, maize or beet. The feeding activities can result in significant crop damage. However, in maize a given density of A. ustulatus larvae causes less damage compared to related species like Agriotes brevis or Agriotes sordidus (Furlan, 2014). The adult beetle is around 10 mm long.
