Apiognomonia erythrostoma (Fuckel) Höhn. 1918 - (cherry leaf scorch)
This fungus causes a leaf scorch disease on cherry. It is found mainly in Europe, but has been also reported from eastern Asia. The disease can cause significant damage to cherry growers.
Large necrotic areas develop on the leaves and the leaves eventually dry up, but remain attached to the tree over the winter. During spring perithecia develop on infected leaves which release ascopsores. Asexual fruiting bodies form during the summer which disperse conidia.
